How to Legalize a Medical Report from Kenya for Use Abroad
When applying for a visa, work permit, or residency abroad, you may be required to present a medical report that is legally recognized in the destination country. To ensure your medical report issued in Kenya is accepted internationally, it must go through a legalization or authentication process that verifies its authenticity.
Step 1: Obtain a Valid Medical Report
Your medical report must be issued by a licensed doctor or recognized medical institution in Kenya. It should be on the hospital’s or clinic’s official letterhead, dated, and signed by the attending physician.
Step 2: Verification by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU)
Before the report can be notarized or legalized, it must be verified by the KMPDU to confirm that the doctor who prepared the report is duly registered and in good standing.
This verification provides an additional layer of credibility and prevents the use of forged or unqualified medical documents.
Step 3: Notarization by a Notary Public
After KMPDU verification, the document should be notarized by a Notary Public in Kenya. The notary certifies that the document is authentic and properly issued by a verified medical practitioner.
Step 4: Authentication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)
Once notarized, the medical report is submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for authentication. The MFA confirms the signature and seal of the notary public, thereby recognizing the document as genuine for use abroad.
Step 5: Embassy or Consulate Legalization
After MFA authentication, the document is then presented to the embassy or consulate of the destination country for final legalization. This step ensures that your medical report is officially recognized by foreign authorities.
Step 6: Translation (if required)
If your destination country uses a language other than English, the medical report should be translated by a certified translator and, where necessary, the translation legalized.
